The Bomarzo sterling silver drop earrings are reproductions of a coin from 47BC that depicts the shocking face of Medusa. The coin is completed with a large green agate gemstone that has silver scroll detailing where the coin and the stone meet. Medusa, a frightening figure in ancient Greek and Roman drama, is traditionally a theater mask. This was the symbol used in some of the coinage of the Plautia family to strike fear in their enemies.
