The Civitas sterling silver earrings have intricate details throughout. The authentic ancient coins in this piece are from 340AD under the rule of Constantine, and the circle enclosing them is an original piece done by the artist in the lost-wax method. A coral button is enclosed in a fixed drop and a tiny coin, obolo, pressing the coral button, represents Athena, Goddess of beauty. The script on the silver circle declares "long live beauty" in both Latin and Greek. Constantine was Caesar from 317-337AD and titled Augustus from 337-340AD. All of the successors of Caesar after Octavius took the title Caeser until Hadrian, who kept the title Augustus for the Emperor and allowed the title Caesar to be used for the heir apparent.
